WCAG vs US Section 508
Also known as: Section 508 · US federal accessibility
US Section 508 governs federal-agency accessibility and (since 2018) is refresh-aligned to WCAG 2.0 AA. Not identical — Section 508 adds procurement-specific and hardware-specific requirements.
Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act requires federal agencies to make their electronic content accessible. The 2018 Section 508 Refresh aligned technical criteria to WCAG 2.0 Level A + AA — so meeting WCAG 2.0 AA satisfies the technical portion of Section 508.
Israeli Standard 5568 similarly adopts WCAG (at 2.1 AA), meaning content built to comply with Israeli law is usually already Section 508-compatible on the technical criteria. Non-technical differences remain: Section 508 has procurement, hardware, and self-contained-product requirements that WCAG alone doesn't cover.
